Fixed: incorrect description and image sharing to Facebook posts

By: omer nawaz on Tuesday, 20 January 2015 | 13:45

Tuesday, 20 January 2015

When you share a message on Facebook, it displays a thumbnail picked in the message page with a short description of the position. But in many cases does Facebook not identify the good image and description it should use. This is totally boring, and I have received many queries about on my Facebook page and e-mail.

So for those who are trying to figure a way out of this, here is the solution.

What image and description only pick from your Facebook page Post

Facebook regularly scratching your page and caches the data on your servers. They look for metadata information (tags OpenGraph and others) in your page. The metadata can specify an image and description to be used when the page is shared. If Facebook is not metadata, their algorithms will seek another description and image of your page.

Facebook shows a description and erroneous image when their algorithms are not able to pick the right picture and description of your post page.

We will solve both problems by using two different techniques.

1. Adjust the problem of mistaken image.

You have probably noticed that the avatars of comments, and other non-relevant images happens when you share the post on Facebook. The solution to this is to specify the image in the metadata of the page. We will use open graph tags for the same.

You can change the image URL in the above excerpt. This image will be used when no post thumbnail is present.

Now when you share posts on Facebook, an appropriate thumbnail will be displayed. If the post has no images, the fallback image we have stated in the extract will be used. If you do not see results right away, then it is because of caching done by Facebook. You can force Facebook to update the cache debugging the URL of the ticket from the use of this tool.

2. Fixing the Problem Description Wrong

Wrong description comes when Facebook is not able to recognize the content and structure of your page. This function can also be corrected using metadata, but since Blogger does not provide post excerpt tag outside the widget blog, it is impossible to do using valid HTML. So we have to go for other alternatives. If the metadata is not found, then Facebook would normally use the first paragraph of your page (which is quite large). So it will be a good idea to get used to in paragraph
HTML content. The publisher to publish content does not use paragraph tags, but uses a lot of line break tags instead. So if you use the editor to publish content, then you will go to the HTML view of the message editor, and make sure you use paragraph tags (I agree that it is a difficult thing to do). If you can not take that headache, then you can use a third party tool such as the release of Windows Live Writer that has editing controls of superior quality. After doing this, you will again force a refresh of the cache using the Facebook debugging tool and your message should show a good description on Facebook.

3. Scripts come in the description of Facebook

I had seen one or two cases where the JavaScript code snippets come in the description of Facebook. Facebook somehow confused the script for the content, and this is probably because of the way you added the script. Go to your model and see if there are special characters in front of this particular script tag. If you find one, then remove it and force a Facebook update the cache.

The new iPhone 5 , new design, new system iOS 6, new headphones and faster still

Apple unveiled a new version of aujourd'huit iPhone (iPhone 5) and many new features, this Wednesday, Sept. 12, in San Francisco.

iPhone 5 actually addresses a new, longer design. the new smartphone looks like its predecessor, the 4S, keeping this side "rectangular with rounded edges." The iPhone 5, however, displayed as "thinner" and "lighter" than the 4S. But above all, it offers a larger screen (4 inches against 3.5 inches for the 4S) while retaining its high definition quality (1136 x 640 pixels).

New iOS 6 system, new features. Apple updates its iOS with advanced integration of Facebook and Twitter through the various menus. A photo can for example be published directly without a dedicated Facebook application. Similarly, an option in the Notification Center lets you post a new status or iTunes offers the ability to "love" music tracks. Apple also offers an application "Plans" revised and corrected by Apple (the app Google has paid the price of their squabbles). This new version is much like the previous one, but proposes to guide the user to the voice GPS way or tourist tours in three dimensions. The iOS 6 will be launched on 19 September and will be compatible with older iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

Apple focused on its new A6 chip for calculations "twice as fast". Technology can seem like detail, but in use, according to Apple, typical tasks are between 1.7 and 2 times faster. A significant fluidity, especially when using new intensive applications.

Apple unveiled new headphones, called "Ear Pod," including "the form is defined by the geometry of the ear." Headphones, already known rumors that Apple touted as "designated to deliver sound directly into the ear." No revolution (again), but a quality that gives the iPhone 5 has the advantage of being transformed into a finger sliding into iPod.

Tidbits relayed by the press reported a better camera, but Apple unveiled "the best camera on the market." The new target on the back of the iPhone 5 display 8 megapixel camera, an auto focus, stabilizer, a face detection, HD video options ... Comparable to competition, but offer great pictures near and far. Better, the new iPhone offers new option as Panorama that allows for wide panoramic by simply moving the phone to the right when shooting. In short, Apple stands there its marketing argument.

The ransom -virus

By: omer nawaz on Monday, 19 January 2015 | 13:33

The virus-ransom hard disk kidnappers arrive

A web page is opened or clicked on a link in an e-mail, and computer desktop turns gray. A window opens in the browser with the FBI logo on the top left. In a corner of the window, you can see the video of a face filmed live. We try to click elsewhere, but the screen is locked. Then, surprise, his face looking at us on the screen, you end recognize that it is ours.

This is not the scenario of some Japanese horror film. This is a particularly frightening virus dubbed "ransomware" or "virus ransom" that for some months been a number of reporting strong growth.

Nobody knows how many people have been infected, but McAfee security software company, reported having registered 120,000 new samples of this virus in the second quarter of 2012, four times more than the same period last year last.

There are several ransom virus variants, which have in common is to start with your access to your own computer. The rest of the program: extort money by blackmailing the user, by intimidation or fear of making him one way or another. No physical force but many give way, and that's understandable.

The process I describe in the first paragraph is that of infection by a virus called Reveton, which is contracted by clicking on a malicious link or by visiting an infected website, triggering the automatic download. Under the video, which reflects our surprise when we recognize, is the IP address of the computer, the "hostname" and a warning: "Your computer is locked."

By reading the following, we discover that we are charged with possession of files downloaded illegally in violation of federal copyright laws (a (...) Read more on

Facebook has understood, a social network that leads the competition is good, but it's even better when profits arising are important. And this tendency to profit optimization has increased since the IPO of US giant. After changing the terms and conditions of his service announced yesterday, Facebook now seems to want to emulate its advertising strategy on Google, the undisputed leader in the field on the Internet ... to the detriment of users?

March 1, Google has indeed updated its privacy policy. The program includes a collection of information on various media, the company can now cross to refine its advertisements. It is therefore possible to use the GPS data from your Android smartphone, your search history and your Google+ profile to offer highly targeted ads. In view of the many services offered by Google, the collected data can be very full on each individual. Facebook therefore wishes to proceed in the same way for its ads, using both its web sites (including Facebook and Instagram ...) and third-party applications that use it.

In this way, for example, Facebook could cross the data contained in your profile, those of your friends, your website, personal information present on Instagram, and the data you share with applications on the social network. According to Facebook, this method allows to better understand the activities of members and improve service ... Crossing the data above would allow it to better sell its advertising space to advertisers and increase prices.

When Google announced plans to analyze user data through all its services, the CNIL had not been slow to react. This time, it was the Irish authorities that pull the alarm. The protection commissioner of the Irish data (DPC) is asking Facebook rapid clarification of the proposed overhaul of privacy settings. In any case, according to the Data Protection Commissioner, European users should explicitly accept these measures before they are implemented.

Big Data : large amounts of data and uncertainty

By: omer nawaz on Sunday, 18 January 2015 | 13:24

Sunday, 18 January 2015

Here too good value proposition for businesses to let it go : take massive amounts of data they accumulate inside and outside their organization, and extract valuable information among the countless worthless data . But these chips can be tiny and very hard to find.

Companies are progressing in the organization and review of internal data, such as interactions in call centers, business transactions and product levels. However, they are not prepared to external information. But in the end, what is the essence of large amounts of data, it is the external information on the web, including social media. However, most companies are wary of the validity or accuracy of this data.

These are the conclusions of a report recently published by IBM and the Saïd Business School, Oxford University, based on a global survey of 1,144 business professionals and IT. Three-quarters (76%) of respondents currently conducting Big Data development initiatives, mainly in the early stages.

Most of Big Data initiatives currently deployed by companies aim to improve the customer experience. Yet, despite this focus, less than half of the companies involved in these initiatives collect and analyze data from external sources, such as social media. This is explained by the fact that business leaders fear the uncertainty inherent in certain types of data, such as weather, the economy or the feeling and sincerity of the people who speak out on social networks. Respondents in the study have questioned their ability to trust comments, reviews, micro-messages or other forms of freely shared online opinions.

As the report states: "The feelings and sincerity among individuals, the GPS signals that bounce off the skyscrapers of Manhattan, weather conditions, economic factors, the future ... Faced with these kinds of data, the data cleansing is ineffective. Yet despite the uncertainty, these data do not contain less valuable information. The need to recognize and accept this uncertainty is a fundamental characteristic of Big Data. »

The second major problem is a growing shortage of skills when it comes to find individuals capable of managing and retrieving the data, the study reveals. Only 25% of respondents in the study said they have the capacity to analyze highly unstructured data, which is a major obstacle to get the most value from large amounts of data.

Indeed, the Big Data requires to analyze semi-structured and unstructured data, including various types of data that can be entirely new for many companies. Obtaining the advanced capabilities required to analyze unstructured data (data that do not fit in traditional databases, such as text, sensor data, geospatial data, audio, images and video), and broadcast data continuously remains a major challenge for most companies.

A competitive advantage that almost two thirds of respondents

The respondents in the study cite different advantages and business opportunities arising from their Big Data projects. Nearly two-thirds (63%) of respondents said that the use of information, including Big Data and analytical processing "creates a competitive advantage" for their business. This represents an increase of 70% compared to 37% who saw it as a competitive advantage in an IBM study in 2010.
More than half of respondents in the study cited internal data (this is usually structured data) as the main source of large amounts of data in their business. In more than half of the active efforts of Big Data, respondents have entrusted use advanced capabilities to analyze the text in its natural state, such as transcripts of conversations in call centers.

These analytical capabilities include the ability to interpret and understand the nuances of language, such as felt, slang and intentions. This data can help companies such as a bank or a telecom service provider to understand the state of mind of a client and obtain valuable information that can be immediately exploited to guide customer management strategies.

Besides the results focused on customers, only half (49%) of respondents identified as a high priority, the first applications of Big Data are addressing other functional objectives. Almost a fifth (18%) of respondents cited optimizing operations as a primary goal. Other Big Data applications are focused on the financial and risk management (15%), empowering new business models (14%) and employee collaboration (4%).

Ultimately, the goal is to stimulate the economy of the city and market innovations that may emerge in the new institute.

The latter will focus on five areas: smart cities, new media, medical analytical processing, financial analytical processing and cyber security, says Columbia magazine.
Columbia researchers and professors are already talking about them for their creative analysis (and practice) of Big Data, from journalism professors who use data mining programs to identify patterns in the electoral discourse to the medical researchers studying how genetic data could help doctors tailor drug treatments in the future.

The university is committed to raise at least $ 80 million in the private sector and recruit 75 new teachers and assistants to the institute by 2030. These will occur on all disciplines outside of engineering, looking for solutions to concrete problems via the analysis of very large data sets.
An analysis of the economic impact made by the Economic Development Corporation of New York projects that the institute will generate $ 3.9 billion of activities for the city over the next thirty years, reports the Columbia magazine.

The first phase of establishment of the institute will be completed in 2016, when a physical home location for the institute will open in the Columbia Mudd existing building, which also houses its engineering school (additional space will be taken on the Northwest Corner Building Building of Columbia, which is still under construction in the future, the Institute will extend Audubon building on the campus of Columbia Medical School).

In writing this article a few days after Hurricane Sandy had hit the East Coast of the United States, I could not help thinking that given the recent turmoil experienced by New York, it will be particularly fascinating to see whether and how the five key areas of the institute will converge in the context of the damage left by Sandy. How data related to Sandy they affect the development of smart cities , journalistic coverage of disasters and future monitoring of economic and medical concerns modes of a city beset by unprecedented storms?

In many ways, the fact that this institute is based in New York could offer unique local opportunities in terms of analysis of post -Sandy data and action based on these data ... opportunities that could have national implications and world.

Our computers on wheels, formerly called car, reach critical mass in terms of global connectivity. Ford has just announced that delivered more than 5 million vehicles equipped with the SYNC connectivity system developed with Microsoft there five years. For the manufacturer, this connectivity is the gateway for the car to become "the most intelligent well in your possession."

"SYNC has helped us evolve as a car manufacturer, to think and act more like a technology company, with a new level of openness and access that has forever changed the way we view our business and respond to our customers, "said Paul Mascarenas, CTO and vice president of the branch of Ford Research and Innovation.

"We turned the car into a platform offering vast opportunities for developers working with us continue to add value through new features brought to the rhythm now expected by consumers. With more than one billion smartphones in use today in the world, we believe that mobile connectivity will continue to be the cornerstone of our future strategy. »

SYNC has been designed so to adapt and change with new technological developments. While cars and trucks usually remain outstanding for more than 10 years on average, consumers often replace their electronic devices every two or three years to keep up with the latest technological advances. The SYNC development team created an architecture based on the Windows Embedded Automotive platform that supports open protocols such as USB and Bluetooth so that most devices can connect for media playback and communications.

When SYNC was first announced January 7, 2007 at the International CES, the presentation included iPod, Motorola RAZR flip phone and Palm TREO smartphone. Just two days later, Apple revolutionized the mobile phone and gave birth to the economy of applications by announcing its first iPhone.

New capabilities
When customers began driving the first car equipped with SYNC, the Focus 2008, in the fall of that year, most of them used SYNC to make calls hands-free with their feature phone and listen music from an iPod with voice commands provided by Nuance voice recognition technology.
Five years later, Ford noted that smartphones are powered by a variety of platforms, including mobile operating systems iOS, Android, Blackberry and Windows Phone. "With their built-in storage, processing power that rivals desktop computers there are five years old and fast wireless data connections, these phones still work with these vehicles equipped with SYNC original," says the automaker, now or computer manufacturer.

The system also supports the new capabilities available on most Ford vehicles like AppLink, the emergency service 911 Assist, Vehicle Health Report reports and SYNC Services, a network of services based on cloud computing that provides reports on traffic, turn-by-turn guides of the search business, news, sports scores and movie listings.

"The car is a rich source of real-time data"

"It is clear today that the development of an open and scalable connectivity platform was crucial to the success of SYNC because it has allowed us to keep up with the consumer," said Paul Mascarenas. "With SYNC, Ford vehicles are no longer confined to technology at the plant, they can keep pace with changing trends general public via simple software updates. »

Connectivity of cloud computing, embedded sensors and data access create intelligent vehicle experience. Other advances, such as natural language processing and machine learning, could allow SYNC provide a more natural interaction between car and driver, enabling a more personalized driving experience and practice. "The car is a rich source of real-time data; combined with the processing power available in the cloud, it could become the smartest although you will ever own, "predicts Paul Mascarenas.
