The images are valuable to the organic results and search engine optimization, but often not taken into account. You can get traffic through image search and through global search.
Several dimensions related to the optimization of photographs that include a better position in the search engine results, optimizing the user experience and, in some cases, optimization of the buttons to share on social networks.
For SEO, it can be helpful to think of optimizing photos as if they were a small site on your site. Elements such as the structure of the URL, the anchor text and description tags are important factors when it comes to optimize for search engines just like normal web.

Here you have 6 tips for optimizing images for SEO .
1. Find the right images
Finding the right type of photography is the most important. The good visuals can add another dimension to an article or page that encourages people to share and so getting links. Some studies show that, although the text is still the first thing you see on the page, the image is what sells.
Here are some places to find pictures:

  • Flickr: Probably the most popular program to find free photographs.
  • Stock.xchng: A funny name, but there are hundreds of illustrations of.
  • iStockPhoto: A large selection of stock photos that you can buy.

You can also use Google image search to place on your website, provided that the search is properly licensed. But you must be careful when using the photographs, because if you do not have permission to do so, companies and websites owners may take legal action against you.
2. Use keyword (s) on the file name
Like keywords in the URLs of the posts are important to us, as it works with photos. Use keywords in the file name is important to help the search engines determine relevancy. For example, imagine that you call first photo of this post "img_365467454XSmal.jpg" that name does not add much information on this page. We called "seo-for-imagenes.jpg". Of course, most of photography that are not simply decorative, like the one above, are connected to the web content, such as a product. If we use usase us for another reason, for example, to position a blog, the name should reflect that.

Google suggests you put the photos in a folder on your website, mydomain.com / images, instead of placing them in folders random around the page. Another suggestion from the search engine that has to do with the names of the files or ULRs of the images is that you use common file types: JPEG, GIF, PNG and BMP.

3. Create an alternative text description

The texts or alternative labels are another way to help the search engine to determine the subject of your image. Unlike the Web, search engines can not determine the textual content of an image. (Robots are pretty smart, but still do not have eyes). As a result, search engines rely catches around, the alternative text, file name and other nearby text. Add a descriptive text label that facilitates alternative search engine decides on the content of the image.
If photography is navegaciónl, for example a link to another page, be sure to use alternate text that is relevant to the page content the links.
4. The proper anchor text
The anchor text is an important factor for SEO of images. If you decide to put links to pictures with text, that text anchor can play a role in your image classification by keywords. Use a text describing the image. For example, put a link to an image using a generic term such as "image" or "photo" or a name that does not include keywords seekers not too much information on the subject of the illustration. Link it is useful keywords for search engines and for users of your site.
5. Make sure the image matches the content
The content surrounding the picture should be related to what you have optimized so far: the anchor tag, the URL of the image, alternative labels. When all these elements are aligned, searchers confirm that you are not spamming and that the image quality is important.
6. Do not overdo it
This goes for all types of SEO, but will say it again to make it clear: do not overdo using keywords when filling fields like image alternate text. Alternative texts, catches and file names should be short and descriptive, not a long list of keywords. Remember optimize the photos for your web visitors. The SEO for images is as much about the user experience and to get the best positions in the search results.
Images are the forgotten of SEO, but with these 6 tips, you can improve the optimization of your website and move up in search results.
